Denmark based artist Antonella Diana was artist in residence at the Network of Cultural Stations in Novi Sad, Serbia for the AIR on the Edge residency from November - December 2023.
AIR on the Edge is a one-month international artist residency exchange between Denmark, Finland, Ireland, The Netherlands and Serbia. It focuses on artists professional development, creating opportunities for artists to engage with rural communities and is rooted in rural places and cities on the edges of Europe.
Antonella shared a bit about her experience:
I was the artist in residence for one month at Cultural Station (KS) Barka, in Novi Sad, Serbia. It was inspiring and productive. I met artists in their studios, I attended workshops, lectures, and performances in both Novi Sad and Belgrade. I met with many local artists and it went so well that I invited Dragana Kojicic and Marija Kozomora to attend the Symposium Art and Nature Lab in Ringkøbing, Denmark in August 2024.
Along with that I have been invited by Dah Teatar for a lecture in April 2024 and in July I will attend a four-day bio architecture workshop organized by Dragana Kojicic.
I’m very grateful for this program!
During my residency I participated in a workshop on eco printing on textiles. Marija Kozomora is a young artist, perhaps the only one in Serbia who works on this technique. Marija is fully engaged in climate change issues. These were interesting techniques, involving only using natural elements and colours on textiles. Marija gave an inspiring introductory lecture on how to make such prints. She also spoke about the toxicity of the colors we usually wear on our skin. It has been very inspiring to me and I hope to work with her in the future.
Antonella also hosted a one-hour "Open Studio" event. Visitors were able to witness the works that were being created as part of her residency project at the Barka Cultural Station in Novi Sad. In addition to the works itself, photos and short videos of the latest projects of Theater OM in Denmark were shown.
